“Stormy Season” by Ronda Waiksnis Painting, Oil on Paper 11 x 10, $205

Here in the Southeastern US, it seems the Atlantic ocean and the Gulf of Mexico have had back to back storms for months now. A recent article in the New York Times cited Bob Henson, a meteorologist for Weather Underground as saying, “This season has been an overachiever by almost every index. We’ve had more than a year’s worth of named storms when you look at the long-term average, and that’s being just past the midpoint of the season.”

Bracing for the Storm by Laura Spring Painting, Acrylic on Canvas 24 x 12, $330

Evidently, there have been nine storms in a row that have been given names by the National Hurricane Center, which is highly unusual and hasn’t happened since 1893. I’ve read the record is 10 storms, which happened in 1878, 1886, and 1893.
