Architect Emmanuelle Moureaux is one of eight exhibitors in Tokyo’s third annual Shinjuku Creator’s Festa. If you’re lucky enough to be in Tokyo, check out her brilliant mix of contemporary color and traditional Japanese space division on the first floor of the Shinjuku Mitsui Building. Also on view are works by the whimsical Yayoi Kusama, Daido Moriyama and other Japanese artists.
Moureaux says: “The first time I saw Tokyo, the sight of the streets overflowing with color hit me full-on, and I decided to live in Tokyo. The city was composed of many layers – the buildings of all different shape and size, the space between them, the signs, the electric wires – and within that countless colors overflowed in layer upon layer, creating a complex depth.”
“The colors and layers I sensed in Tokyo became the starting point for my design concept of “Shikiri.” As my company heads towards its tenth anniversary, I wanted to express the power of color to the full and share that sense of overflowing color.”
“That desire inspired the creation of the 100 Colors space here in Tokyo. Come down and find your favorite color!”
