Peter Colbert

My paintings reflect my experiences in life, as both a painter and a designer (in an earlier life). My art emerges from my mind but also my heart and is based on my passion for light, color and design... and is influenced by events in my life.
I graduated from art college in Toronto in the early 1980's and spent many years working as an art director and illustrator. I was induced to try my hand at fine art by printers and associates in the business and have been selling my art on a full time basis for 15 years. Without question it's been extremely liberating for me, now that my principle client is myself!
I moved from Toronto to Ottawa about 7 years ago and from my studio I use small photos of my many hikes in this incredibly beautiful area as reference material for many of my paintings. But most times I use them as inspiration for my abstract works, focusing on the composition, color interaction and structure.
I strive for simplicity in my paintings... I can live with them for much longer when they are clean and elegant as well as strong and simple.
