Artist Statement:
“My work is inspired by the pattern and movement of light reflections in water. I’m fascinated by the luminous color interactions created by currents and waves as light dances between them. It continues to be a wonderful challenge to explore ways to capture this movement on a canvas, to represent the depth and life of an ever moving landscape.
Growing up in California, I have long been inspired by the nostalgic idea of the classic California dream from the mid-20th century. This concept has become abstracted a bit as I have moved from painting objects and architecture and into capturing the essence of light in water, but the feeling they evoke are still very much reminiscent of a sunny summer day. Each piece is directly inspired by a particular experience, and is for me a vivid memory of the moment of inspiration. I feel the most alive when exploring new places, and as a result my work is a direct reflection of the moments when life is at it’s best.
Creating these water paintings is very meditative. I get lost in the process, just as I get lost watching light interact with water. “
Laura received her BFA from California State University Long Beach in 2000. She taught workshops at the Los Angeles Museum of Art before interning at the Guggenheim Collection in Venice, Italy. Upon conclusion of her internship, Laura worked in a giclee reproduction studio, hand enhancing limited edition pieces of art, and eventually became a ghost painter. Laura also worked for fine art publishers, creating work that would be reproduced as prints and sold in major chain stores. Yearning for a more direct connection with art buyers, Laura opened her own company creating custom art on canvases and walls working directly with interior designers and homeowners to create the best possible piece for their space. These days Laura focuses her efforts on creating a body of original works on canvas.
Laura paints in oils from her home studio in the San Francisco Bay Area. She lives with her husband and young son in their beloved Eichler home - a “glass house” which invites the outside in and provides endless inspiration.
