Artist Statement:
I often describe my work as an abstract interpretation of my subconscious mind. By combining a variety of 3d textured materials and layered vibrant colors, this push and pull of grit and beauty mesmerizes me while also sharing my life experiences. My process and approach to the work is raw, open to exploration and uninhibited. The geometry, materials and texture echo my admirable sentiment for graffiti culture and bringing the outside in. My blended colors that fill in blockbuster letters on streets across the nation are seen as a starting point for my transition from street art to fine art. The cropped sections of my filled in letters come to life in my abstracted studio works. As a graffiti writer I used scraps of left-over spray paint to create blends. Now, I use my materials similarly to create a symbiotic relationship between my exterior practice and my interior studio practice. Most recently I have taken some of the 3d textures used in my studio pieces to exterior walls by affixing wire items that might be found in the streets. Toggling between both of my artistic interests I find great solace in exploration and pushing the boundaries of my art making process.
