Greybeard Art

The nickname was first used by my uncle when I was a youth. The years of that young stockman and dozer driver are now a distant memory.

I was born in country Queensland and spent my early childhood on a cattle property situated along the Nogo River. As a five-year-old, I would go out into the paddocks with my father and I've felt a strong connection to that landscape ever since.

I'm a mainly self taught artist and I work in oils on canvas. I got my first set of oils at age nine and immediately did a painting of the big gum tree at the front of the house. I now continue to paint as 'Greybeard' that harsh country that is so familiar to me.

ARTIST STATEMENT

My paintings are developed from observations of the landscape and from images that persist in my memories. It is the vastness of the land, the river, the granite boulders, the bluegums and black ironbarks that interest me the most. My aim is to convey a sense of place.
