Artist Statement:
Creating artwork is something that has been a great part of my life since I was very young. I have worked perfecting my skill throughout my life. Working at attaining growth with every piece I create is a hope I strive for.
I explore many themes from still life to plein air landscapes. What I try to achieve in my work is the essence of the subject or focal point. Then I try to make sure everything else supports that. All my artworks are done with oils. But first there is much preliminary work. I start with thumbnails or small sketches. Then comes the value and color study. Sometimes, I may start with an underpainting or tone the linen in acrylics depending on the surface of my support. I also may start with a grisallie technique which is the use of a limited pallette or monochromatic block-in. After that I am ready for a thin block-in of test colors. When all is tested out and I'm happy with my choices, I will start to paint more thickly usually with several coats or passes of paint. To finish, I make any small corrections or clean up and deal with edges.
