Artist Statement:
Being born in the north of Germany, I have always felt a close connection to the elements water, wind, air and northern skies and a deep love for the sea. The colors of skies, clouds, water and light keep fascinating me and give me strength and power. I have been an abstract landscape painter since 1996 and have started to professionalize my work since 2016, exhibiting a lot and selling my art to national and international clients.
Recently I have been painting much with waterolors and gouache because painting in thin layers gives a special lightness and airyness to the paintings that I love very much and have first experienced when seeing the works of Mark Rothko. My colours are usually applied in many layers like the techniques of the old masters: gouache or watercolor to start with, later other media such as egg tempera, acryl, oil will be added, often mixed with pencils, ink, pastels or wax. Changing between works on paper and works on canvas allows me to explore many of the chances and possibilities that lie in letting the water do the painting. Traces, running marks, drippings are wanted and welcome. This way I can follow the traces left by the water and only after the drying process I will start making the decisions about composition and what is allowed to stay, what must go. Sometimes I have to do this process orientated painting several times in one work, sometimes the painting must be stuck away for a few weeks to give me the inner distance needed for those decisions. This way many layers form a painting and this is similar to life itself - we become more interesting and deeper with each layer of experiences, good or bad, light or shadow. Most of my paintings seem to be landscapes, but no real ones, they are mainly inner landscapes connected to my inner feelings and emotions.

Artistic Influences:
I have always admired and been influenced a lot by the American Expressionists like Mark Rothko, Willem De Kooning, Jackson Pollock, Cy Twombly and Clifford Still. I have seen many exhibitions with these artists and learned a lot from seeing their art, but I don´t want to copy and express my own visual language instead.
