Artist Statement:
An artist from Kyiv, Ganna Primakova, paints still lifes that could be called "paintings of mood". They come out from under her brush incredibly - beautiful, festive and enchanting. Shesays that throughout her artistic career, she has had many different color preferences. The first was black, then red, followed by off- white, and now, what she calls decorative, because now she prefers bright, vibrant colors.
The still life genre has always attracted the attention of Anna Primakova, ever since she studied painting in various academic studios of Shatalin and Huyda. Needless to say, she paints with ease in any genre.
There was a curious case in her life that tested her artistic skills. One of the buyers asked Anna to draw a horse that, in his view, had to be a confirmation of an artist's talent. When asked if the artist managed this task, the purchaser proudly replied, “You bet!” and became her sincere supporter for life.
Anna Primakova is not as interested in flowers and objects in her still lifes as it may seem at the first glance. They exist but at the same time, they are barely perceptible in her canvases. She simply hints to a viewer, and then lets him or her recreate and refine what they see in their mind. Anna Primakova's still lifes resemble dreams in which reality is covered with a translucent veil of mystery. ?A still life is a state of mind? says the artist. The audience must understand the true essence and mystery of the artist's soul and the complicated structure of her worldview. She makes the still life, commonly perceived as a female genre, not just sound more important but look so beautiful that is feels unreal.
Anna Primakova emphasizes that the main thing for her is the ability to find and capture a particular moment, a blink of reality that will become a source of inspiration for her creations. “It could be anything, just an element of the pattern on a jug, one of the spirals on a shell. But the very moment I start to see and feel, that insignificant thing becomes the most significant, cherished and cultivated thing in the world for me”. Anna paints her canvases in a burst of inspiration, even if drawing from nature. Her emotions and mood play a crucial role in creating her artwork.
Graceful silhouettes of vases, flowers and expressive, active spots of color are the basic components of Anna's still lifes. “I was never interested in a traditional, realistic still life, because I do not like literal interpretation of life. I do not work on compositions for my still lifes, they live inside me." Today this artist's palette is full and active like never before. But she still wishes to intensify her color themes, stating “I crave more active and saturated colors, the full riot of them".
Not aware of her inner struggle, the viewer is captured by the huge amount of energy of her still lifes, enchanted by the incredible luster of iridescent colors and yet amazed by softness and homeliness of the subtle world of objects that emerges out of the cobwebs of crazy colors. In an instant, the lush, colorful world the artist shows us transforms into something kind, cozy and intimate, something that makes our crazy world a slightly nicer place.
