It happened quickly – Art Basel 2010 has come and gone. By now Miami Beach is just another pre-holiday beach town with reindeer and pink flamingoes decorating the front yards.

I’ve heard nothing but good reports coming out of Miami this year. If Zatista’s coverage of the fairs wasn’t enough for you, there’s plenty of information out there on the Miami season. To save you some time, I’ll link you to my favorite tidbits so you can get a feel for what a great experience Art Basel Miami can be.

1. The General Sense of Things: It may have felt like a slow fair since many of the long lines and crowds of previous years weren’t there, but art was selling none the less. The Wall Street Journal reported that Steve Cohen bought Adel Abdessemad’s “Mappemonde” for approximately $300,000 at David Zwirner and a work by Tim Hawkinson for $180,000 from the gallery Blum & Poe. The New York Times had some good insights on the temperature of the fair too.

7. Best DIY Art Installation: A group of artists took over Flagler Memorial Island to create The Island exhibition. Shamim Momin, the curator who conceived the show left the Whitney Museum of American Art last year to found LAND, a kind of guerrilla nonprofit organization whose mission is to foster site-specific public art around the country and eventually, around the world. 8. Coolest Looking Thing I Found Photos of Online: An art installation by Rachely Rotem and Phu Hoang. Dubbed the Exhale Pavilion, the open-air installation featured seven miles of reflective and phosphorescent ropes that interacted with the wind to create a dynamic space that changed with the weather.

9. Greenest Way to do Basel: Street.Art.Cycles: Art Basel Edition offered docent‐guided tours of significant street art in Miami’s Wynwood Art and Design Districts by bicycle.

10. Best Food Exhibit: Jennifer Rubell’s “Just Right” food installation. Each room included a display of one of the components of an oatmeal breakfast. Check out the photos to get a better sense of this great, interactive art piece.
